Consumer Classroom launches third annual competition

The initiative "Consumer Classroom", launches its Inter-school Competition for the third time. This year's topic of the EU-wide contest is "Digital Content - Enjoy and protect yourself!". As ECC Austria reported (see article), Consumer Classroom is an intiative supported by the European Commission which provides educational resources and furthermore enables school within the EU to interact and connect with each other.

Cross-border teamwork

The competition is open to all secondary schools within the EU, the students have to be between 12 and 18 years old. Participants choose a partner school from another EU Member State - on Consumer Classroom, a list of all classes that like to attend is available - with whom they work together on the project. There are almost no limits to creativity: the aim is to create an interactive tool, like a website, a video or a role-play. The project teams can freely decide which aspects regarding the usage of digital content by teenagers they want to examine.

Application until April 24

All important steps of the competition can be processed via the website of Consumer Classroom - choosing a partner school, research aspects and problems regarding the topic, communicating with the team members and creating multimedia lessons. The application including the project have to be submitted until April 24. An jury of experts from all over Europe then choose ten projects which will be presented on Consumer Classroom and are open to an online voting session until May 22. On May 29, the winning team will be announced.

A trip to Brussels

The winning team gets a trip to Brussels, the (political) centre of Europe and will visit all main institutions of the European Union. Their project will be presented at the website of Consumer Classroom as well as at the EU Consumer Summit on June 1. The ten best teams get to choose an item to equip their class/school and all participants receive an honorary certificate by the European Commission.
